The speaker system is very important, because they are the units that actually reproduce the sound from electrical energy.
When I buy speakers, I just want to get good quality speakers. Here is what you should know and what to look for:
Let’s start with the type of speakers that may be found in the car audio world.
Woofer: A large speaker designed to reproduce low frequency of the audio spectrum.
Mid : A medium sized speaker designed to reproduce the center frequency of the audio spectrum.
Tweeter: A small sized speaker designed to reproduce the highest frequencies of audio spectrum.
There are also other variations of these speakers, you surely have heard of “subwoofer” which reproduces the lowest audio frequencies. Basically this is the same thing with woofer only bigger and with more power handling.
And then you might have heard of “mid bass” drivers is similar to the woofer but is usually used to carry the bass and often they connect to a network crossover. Another type of speakers you may know “super tweeter” that reproduce the highest frequencies in the audio spectrum.
Now let’s look the types of speakers available.
- “Coaxial”, three ways, “full range”, etc.
The system is designed for entry to the location of the factory or in your vehicle.
They are often called “Speakers” but have more than one speaker and will also contain a crossover
- “Component”, “Divorces”
These speakers are basically took everything from the speaker system on and break it into parts.
